Your 2014 Window Box Contest Winners Are…

2014 proved to be a great year for container gardening and curb appeal enthusiasts around the country! Even though our contest started a little later than in previous years, the entries made up for lost time. With window boxes abundant with blossoming flowers and creative workmanship, it was very difficult to decide a clear winner. Going to the experts in the trade, we were able to select the contestants who not only had amazing window boxes, but also had a fabulous backstory. So without further delay, let us introduce you to the winners!

Kevin and Annette started there curb appeal project by first updating their roof, which then inspired them to completely upgrade their entire exterior of their home! With a project this outstanding, how could we not select them as a winner for this category?  Using ten black Presidential style window boxes around their home, garage, and shed, they have transformed their average house into the home to be seen on the block!

Window Box on a Rail: Coming to Life: A Deck’s Transformation by Janet Sheehan

Janet’s patio proves that window boxes can thrive just about anywhere. Placing six window box planters on top of her fence, she created a space anyone could relax in. Adding potted plants and hanging baskets was the perfect added statement to blend the outside forest with this, now living patio.

Unique and Creative: Winter Décor in Boxes on Garage Wall by Cathy Litrosky

We just couldn’t get enough of this entry. Cathy could see this large blank wall of the side of her garage from her kitchen window every day and decided it needed a focal point. Using three vertical wall planters, she created her very own window that, with the seasons, can be updated. In the summer she had drought resistant succulents and for winter she used festive evergreens and pinecones.

People’s Choice Award: Summer on Flora St. by Julie DeMarco LaPorta

After seeing these window boxes exploding with gorgeous violets, begonias, and euphorbias you would think that her street must have been named after her window boxes. It is no surprise that these flower window boxes won the attention of social media goers.
