Windowbox Contest 2012 – Window Boxes on a Wall
We have five different window boxes that create a cottage charm look to our home They are wrought iron with the coconut liners sizes 30”, 36” and 48 that were purchased at a local nursery. The window boxes are filled with lots of colorful flowers – Lobelia, Zonal Geranium,Deep Lemon Calirachoa, Creeping Jenny,Sunstatia – Lemon, Raspberry Blast Supertunia, Royal Velvet Supertunia, Snowstorm Giant Snowflake.
My window boxes are 3ft 7in. long by 9 1/2 in. deep. I used a variety of flowers such as vicavine, petunias, geraniums and other assorted colorful annuals from my local nursery. I have been putting together window boxes for 2 years with my dad (my dad says I have a green thumb). I enjoy putting the window boxes together and seeing them grow and change, I like the creativity of being able to plant them the way I would like to.
This white hay rack holds huge, lush ferns. Against the backdrop of the window with the board and batten shutters it gives the window a pop of color!
My window box is fiberglass and was purchase online. The window box measures 48′ long , 10′ wide and and is 11″ deep. I try different plantings every year. I like to see how the colors and the textures of the plants blends.
The planting was done over Memorial Day weekend. New Guinea Impatiens, hanging Geraniums, Licorice, Marigolds, Verbena, “Watermelon” Coleus, Nemesia and Vinca Vine drape gracefully from my wonderful flower boxes.
Our plain, 1962 ranch style home is now a cottage style home!
